Gamal Turawa
Cultural change specialist, international speaker and founder of Purple Frog Connections
Gamal Turawa is a cultural change specialist, international speaker and founder of Purple Frog Connections. A former Metropolitan Police officer and the Met's first openly gay Black police officer, his journey has taken him from adversity and homelessness to being the subject of the BAFTA-winning documentary The Black Cop. Gamal reflects on how childhood, race, culture, identity and belonging have shaped his understanding of what it means to be a man. He talks about trauma, the importance of defining yourself, and the challenge many boys and men face in reconciling who they are with who society expects them to be. The conversation also explores family, faith and social media, and how empathy, honest conversation and genuine human connection can break down barriers.
